Tomorrow night in my living room

Lately when friends from other cities ask about Boston bands worth checking out, a go-to response of mine is Bent Shapes, F/K/A Girlfriends. If you've been following for a while, you're probably familiar with Girlfriends, as I've been writing about them for over two years at this point, since their first home-recorded demos surfaced on Myspace. The band's most recent demo EP flexi-disc, though, contains some of their best recordings to date, veering away from their previous distortion-heavy garage tapes in favor of cleaner-sounding jangly indie-pop. Front-dude Ben Potrykus has always produced some of the tightest punk poetry around, so it works in Bent Shapes' favor that their lyrics are becoming increasingly audible.

Listen to "Big Machines" from the 4-song EP: Tomorrow night, members of Bent Shapes will play in my living room in various forms: Snooze (a new pop duo made of Bent Shapes drummer Andy and Emily Jane Powers from Chicago) and Ben Shapes (Ben solo). Justin and Mallory of Earthquake Party are also playing as Milkshake Party. (Earthquake Party played a basement show with DIIV that we pulled together last-minute in Allston last week, did you see Lou Kishfy's sweet pix?)

If any of y'all are planning to come to the show tomorrow night, note that I'll also be collecting old band t-shirts for Permanent Wave Boston. We'll be re-purposing the shirts and turning them into FREE PUSSY RIOT t-shirts to sell at our upcoming Pussy Riot benefit show. If anyone has old band t-shirts and wants to donate them, contact me or anyone in Perm Wave or just drop them off at the show at my house tomorrow night. Email me for address/info/etc.
